Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestra (SEMYO) is hosting a special string camp for students who have 1-2 years of experience playing violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students will improve in skill and gain confidence while having fun playing in a string orchestra. Participants will receive daily instruction both in small break-out sessions and in a large ensemble.
The goal of the camp is to reinforce proper technique and ensemble playing skills and provide an experience to play in an orchestra ensemble. An informal performance will be hosted on the final day on Friday. All participants will receive a special camp T-shirt. Snacks will be provided.
Please note that this this camp is designed for students with limited experience. More advanced students should attend one our Community Education camps: https://www.semyo.org/experience/summer-camp/
The camp will be led by SEMYO staff conductors Lori Ringen-Poencet, who is also the orchestra director at Friedell Middle School, and Robyn Watts who formerly taught at John Adams Middle School and Century High School. Additional instruction will be provided by area music teachers as well as SEMYO high-school mentors.
