Prelude Winds

About the Ensemble

Prelude Winds is a fun, educational ensemble for young musicians who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Participants will learn proper instrument technique, how to play together as an ensemble, and how to follow a conductor. Participants will also have opportunities to perform in an orchestral setting with SEMYO string players.

Prelude Winds is open to youth who are starting grades 5-8 in the fall with 1-2 years’ experience on any band instrument.

Conductor – Sarah Vinzant

SEMYO welcomed Sarah Vinzant as conductor of Prelude Winds in 2022. Originally from Sioux Falls, SD, she attended the University of South Dakota and earned her degree in Music Education. From there she moved to Rochester and is currently in her sixth year of teaching band at Kasson-Mantorville Middle and High School. She is very active in the area as a private flute teacher, MN All-State Band Coach, and musician in local ensembles (Rochester Pops Orchestra, Choral Arts Ensemble and Rochester Community Band)

Rehearsals

Saturday mornings from 10-11:30 a.m. (early September to Mother’s Day with holiday breaks). Rehearsals take place at Kellogg Middle School (503 17th ST NE, Rochester).

Performances

Prelude Winds will performs in three formal concerts during the 2023-2024 season on November 12, February 25, and May 19. 

Fees and Assistance

Participation fee of $150 per trimester (season – $450) + $50 Registration Fee per family. Discounts are available for families with multiple children and families traveling from outside of the greater Rochester area.
