Conductor of Bravura Strings

SEMYO welcomes Michael Sloane as conductor of the Bravura Strings Orchestra for the 2022-2023 season. Mr. Sloane brings a wealth of teaching experience to SEMYO that includes 25 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools. He has been the middle and high school orchestra director at Faribault Public Schools since 2014 and previously taught orchestra at school districts in Cottage Grove, Bloomington, Owatonna, and Rochester. Prior to becoming an orchestra teacher, Mr. Sloane was a professional double bass player performing on several cruise lines and in orchestras throughout Philadelphia. He also served active duty with the United States Coast Guard in Hawaii and Alaska.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Sloane received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from West Chester University and studied bass and piano with jazz great Ellis Marsalis at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Sloane resides in Dodge County with his family. His interests include old cars and genres of music from all over the world.
