About Bravura Strings
Coming in fall 2021, Bravura Strings is SEMYO’s newest ensemble for student musicians who play violin, viola, cello, or bass. This is a fun, low-key ensemble for young string players who want to increase in skill while making music with friends!
Orchestra members will increase musical aptitude and learn basic ensemble playing skills while rehearsing and performing in a string orchestra, and prepare for future participation in the SEMYO Chamber Strings orchestra.
Skills covered include learning key signatures up to 3 sharps and 2 flats, understanding dotted rhythms and sixteenth notes, matching bow direction and placement within the ensemble, and learning to listen and play with other ensemble members.
Violin and viola players will play primarily in 1st position, cello and bass players will learn to play in 2nd & 3rd position.
Participants should have 1-2 years playing experience and basic knowledge of her or his instrument (or at the end of Suzuki Book 1 or starting Book 2). A simple audition is required that will include 2 scales, a musical excerpt, a solo of the applicant's choice, and sight-reading.
