SEMYO Operations Coordinator

Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras (SEMYO) of Rochester, MN invites qualified candidates who enjoy working with youth to apply for the part-time position of Operations Coordinator.


The Operations Coordinator will work closely with the SEMYO artistic team to coordinate operations for all Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras programs while maintaining positive relationships with SEMYO participants, family members, and community partners. This includes pre-planning and on-site coordination for youth orchestra rehearsals, outreach programs, performances, and special activities. The Operations Coordinator is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for youth in grades 3-12 to learn instrumental music and will serve as the point of contact for participants and parents.


Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in music education, business, performance, or related field.  In lieu of a music degree the Operations Coordinator must have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ volunteer or paid experience working in the performing arts, education, or youth programming. Candidates must be highly organized, be able to work independently without direction, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • 20 Hours Per Week
  • Saturday mornings from September to May required
  • Periodic attendance at weekend events, including 3-4 Sunday afternoon performances, is required.
  • Additional work hours are flexible. Some weekday availability preferred.


  • $22 to $24.75 per hour based on experience ($22,800-$25,740 annually)
  • 4 Weeks Paid Vacation
  • No additional benefits offered at this time


  • Primary SEMYO rehearsals take place Saturday mornings at Kellogg Middle School and Century High School in Northeast Rochester. Additional meetings and events may take place at other locations in Rochester.
  • 1-2 weekdays on site at the SEMYO office in SW Rochester (days and times negotiable)
  • Additional work hours are flexible and may be done remotely.


Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras is a non-profit, 501c3 organization dedicated to the artistic and personal development of young musicians. SEMYO realizes its mission through a rigorous music education program that includes five youth orchestras, chamber music program, annual honor band event, and summer music camp. SEMYO has a core membership of 260 students and reaches hundreds of additional youth through its outreach programs and concert performances.
