Bravura Strings

About the Orchestra

Bravura Strings an ensemble for student musicians with at least one year experience playing violin, viola, cello, or bass. This is a fun, educational ensemble for young string players who want to increase in skill while making music with friends! Orchestra members will increase musical aptitude and learn basic ensemble playing skills while rehearsing and performing in a string orchestra, and prepare for future participation in the SEMYO Chamber Strings orchestra. Violin and viola players will play primarily in 1st position, cello and bass players will learn to play in 2nd & 3rd position.

Conductor – Michael Sloane

SEMYO welcomes Michael Sloane as conductor of the Bravura Strings Orchestra for the 2022-2023 season. Mr. Sloane brings a wealth of teaching experience to SEMYO that includes 25 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools. He has been the middle and high school orchestra director at Faribault Public Schools since 2014 and previously taught orchestra at school districts in Cottage Grove, Bloomington, Owatonna, and Rochester. Rehearsals

10-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays (early September to Mother’s Day). Rehearsals take place at Kellogg Middle School located at 503 17th St NE, Rochester. 

Performance Dates

Performances: Bravura Strings will perform in three formal concerts. Concert dates for the 2023-2024 season will be announced soon.

Fees & Financial Assistance

The participation fee is $150 per trimester ($450 per year) and includes a $50 registration fee per family. Discounts are available for families with multiple children and families traveling from outside of the greater Rochester area.
