Bravura Strings Conductor

Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras (SEMYO) invites qualified candidates to apply for the part-time position of Bravura Strings Conductor. Bravura Strings is an entry-level string orchestra consisting of 30-40 elementary and middle school students with at least 1 year of playing experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass. The Bravura Strings conductor will lead weekly Saturday morning rehearsals, conduct performances, and provide educational and artistic development for student participants. The Bravura Strings conductor also works collaboratively with the SEMYO artistic staff and SEMYO Program Director to plan programming, evaluate participants, and recruit students. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in music with successful experience teaching string instruments and conducting an instrumental music ensemble.

The Bravura Strings orchestra rehearses on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to Noon from September to May. The SEMYO season is divided into three trimesters each with 10 rehearsals that end with a final performance. Rehearsals take place at Kellogg Middle School located at 503 17th ST NE, Rochester, MN.

There may be additional paid opportunities to coach small chamber ensembles and/or lead a summer music camp with SEMYO.

SEMYO is non-profit organization and has 5 youth instrumental ensembles consisting of 160 students in grades 3-12 from throughout Southeastern Minnesota. Annual compensation for the position is between $7,000-$8,500 depending on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may be offered for candidates traveling greater than 40 miles outside of Rochester.
